Case study: inside out 

Storyline:  Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley's mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

Objective: Building a Character/ Theme 

Personality island: The Islands of Personality are locations in  inside Riley's mind. They are the representation of the different aspects of Riley's personality that define her as a person. All the islands usually appear colourful and have neons which glow at night. The features of a given island animate when Riley is expressing what it represents. Each island is powered by a core memory, a memory of greater importance that is stored in Headquarters. Without this core memory, an island turns gray and is susceptible to destruction and loss in the Memory Dump.

Idea: When the Dad comes into the room and tries to cheer Riley up by acting goofy, she rolls over and faces the wall, causing Goofball Island to crumble and therefore forgets and the personality disappears.I had two ideas that might fit in our storyline.

Idea one:  Glowing items; various objects in the room glow to represent a memory, and if someone forgets about a core memory it fades away. This glow will highlight the remanence of technology left in that object. The sister may see an object glitch such as there family photo and she tries her hardest to bring that memory back to her brother but fails to. 

This will be very immersive in terms of set design. The location can be inside there house where  they both meet. She is lonely and therefore the only way for her to feel attached to people is her house.

Idea two: 

I had the idea to create seven icons to represent the way of life so education, family, money ect.  This will circle around there heads. This will be animated. This  idea is similar in a way when some icons are glowing and some are not.
