Shantels Post - The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit
I loved the way how the creators developed the character of Chris, it truly felt like I could see the world from his eyes. I liked how we as an audience were able to build a superhero costume for Chris and take him on an adventure. From the dialogue to the animations of the imaginative world, Chris was very relatable and believable! I could almost see my 6-year-old self in some scene as they captured the imaginative world really well and creatively! It is also interesting how the game turned out to be much darker as the beginning was very light hearted and fun. They introduced more mature themes like alcoholism, grief, and loss. This was shown through the dad really well as he turned to alcohol to numb his overwhelming grief of his wife. And looking back I just realised how he will get annoyed when Chris calls him, and the tone/behaviour of the dad is constantly changing on every scene – he gets more angry. This imaginative world that he has created is a shield for Chris to escape these harsh realities and way for him to deal with the death of the mother. I believe that for our storyline we should implement the idea of the ‘fantasy world’ as children would use that as way to express their happiness and to overcome and ignore such realities of death. I really liked this!
